Finetuning your thoughts

Our personal values affect our decisions and therefore also the course of our lives. Our values can also make a big difference in the lives of those people around us and set good ground-rules and us for how people treat us.

Lack of personal values is at the core of the moral decay that is so evident in society today.

Many people believe that anti-social behaviour is a desire in a person to prefer spending time alone, much like I did when I was a teenager; it’s about being a recluse. I was called anti-social many times by my peers.

Anti-social behavior is in fact something completely different. Please bear with me as I cover this very relevant and very important issue:

Anti-social behaviour (ASB) includes a variety of behaviours covering a whole complex of selfish and unacceptable activity that can impact and disrupt family and social life.

Examples of anti-social behaviour amongst teenagers include:

  • Vulgar and bad use of language
  • Rowdy and nuisance behaviour
  • Yobbish behaviour and intimidating groups or taking over public spaces
  • Vandalism and graffiti, usually in public places
  • Drunkkenness and dealing and buying drugs on the street
  • Dumping rubbish anywhere but in bins provided for that purpose
  • Begging, stealing and anti-social drinking
  • The misuse of fireworks
  • Bullying, abuse and disrespect towards other people
  • Negative demeanor and bad attitude

Anti-social behaviour does not only make life unpleasant, but it also degenerates social development and sustainability of social standards in communities and therefore has a negative impact on more people than just those in close proximity to the person who acts in an anti-social way. Some of these behaviours could well result in a life behind bars and all of them will result in you becoming part of groups with bad influences on your future.
