Are you a person of character?

I read a very interesting analogy in a magazine recently about what character is. The writer compared character with a Coke can. You would expect to find Coke in a Coke can, in other words, you expect what’s on the outside, should also be inside. You would be very disappointed to find tap water inside a Coke can!

The same goes for people – we generally prefer that people are the same inside as the picture they portray on the outside. It is very disappointing when you form an image of a person and find that they really are not what they seemed when we first met them.

We cannot speak for others, only for ourselves. In order to set an example for others, we need to start with ourselves. You can only change yourself.

Your true colours, (or character) usually shows in times that you experience pressure. Such as an empty coke can that crumples when squeezed, so a person empty of character crumples under pressure.

Challenge yourself to continually build your character by becoming strong in what we call the 6 pillars of character until they become habitual and part of your personality.

Einstein said that there is no such thing as darkness, but only an absence of light, you either have character or you don’t. If you do not have character, you lack character; there is no middle ground.

Character is needed to withstand pressure in your life in order to build strong foundations in your relationships with other people. Eventually, later in life your character will stand you in good stead in your relationship with your future husband, children and people you encounter in your career. Nobody wants to be associated with someone who lacks character.
